MTV's The City Season 1 Episode 15 Recap

I felt some tension between Olivia and Erin in this episode! It seems like there's a lot of concern about Roxy letting people walk over her, but I think Whitney needs to re-evaluate who she is as well! At times she lets people walk over her just like when she first arrived in the Big Apple! It seems as though both Olivia and Erin are both confident girls. Hopefully things work out between the two since they'll be working together.

Roxy steps out of line on her first day on the job, which makes Whitney question if working with her friend is a good idea. Meanwhile, Olivia wins Joe Zee's approval on a new project at ELLE.

The episode opens at ELLE Magazine where Erin is briefing Joe Zee on the 'Today Show' segment about outfits for women on a budget. Erin explains that she asked Olivia to pull several options and sizes, but Olivia only came back with two outfits. She also reveals that when she tried to critique Olivia's choices, Olivia told Erin she could pull the items herself. Erin continues to explain that Olivia isn't used to hearing criticism and isn't a nice person. Joe says he wants to stand by his new hire and it is Erin's job to make it work.

Over at People's Revolution in Soho, Roxy arrives for her first day of work. After a warm greeting from Whitney, Roxy is told that there is a photo shoot that day. Kelly Cutrone arrives and introduces the girls to Ali Fatourechi, the client and creative director for the day's shoot. Ali asks the girls to bring clips so they can make the jeans fit better by clamping the extra material back on their petite model.

At ELLE, Joe gives Erin, Olivia and other employees the scoop on an upcoming personal style feature. Olivia suggests shopping at a new vintage store for items, but Joe tells her they need pieces that are more available, rather than one-of-a-kind pieces, to target ELLE readers.

Then, Joe tells the group that Erin has booked another morning show segment which compares real designer accessories to their inexpensive knockoffs. Joe asks Olivia to collaborate with Erin on the segment. Olivia agrees, and Erin explains that she wants a wide range of accessories to choose from this time.

Meanwhile, Whitney and Roxy arrive at the photo shoot. Kelly asks if they brought the clamps for the jeans, and the girls realize they have forgotten them. The girls help with the shoot, but the model does not move very much, even when Kelly encourages her to do different poses. Roxy tells Whitney she doesn't think the shoot is edgy enough, and Whitney says she should speak with Kelly before suggesting anything. Roxy forgoes Kelly and tells the client that the model should take her top off, and he agrees. Kelly overhears their conversation and, though she loves the idea, demands that Roxy inform her first when she has a suggestion.

Back at ELLE, Joe asks Olivia to go to Canal Street to buy fake designer handbags, watches and scarves for the morning show project. Olivia mentions that police are shutting down a lot of transactions and is concerned about the selections, but Joe thinks Olivia will be surprised by what she finds.

Whitney stops in at the Marchesa Design Showroom in Chelsea to see Samantha. Samantha asks Whitney how working with Roxy has been, and Whitney says she thinks Kelly and Roxy will get along well. She tells Samantha about how Roxy took over at the photo shoot. Whitney thinks Roxy still sees her as a little girl that people used to walk all over since Roxy knew her when she was younger and quieter. Whitney says she needs to make sure Roxy understands that she has changed.

After taking the subway to Canal Street, Olivia starts shopping for the fake designer accessories for the morning show segment. After popping in a few shops for sunglasses and watches, she comes across a man chanting designer names like Prada and Gucci. Olivia walks with the man and tells him which designer knock-offs she wants. After he comes back with her choices, Olivia carefully inspects the faux merchandise before finalizing her purchase.

At People's Revolution, Roxy and Whitney discuss what Kelly will say about Roxy's input at the shoot. Roxy thinks Kelly liked her suggestions and that she showed her passion for the job. Whitney agrees that Kelly likes initiative but reiterates that she should have given her idea to Kelly rather than the client.

Back at ELLE, Olivia shows Erin and Kyle, the Senior Accessories Editor, the accessories she bought. Erin says the bags she chose are great, but they need more variety in the types of accessories. Then, Joe comes in to see how Olivia's trip went. Joe praises her bag selections, but says he is concerned that they don't have enough items. Erin agrees with him.

As the two leave the room, Joe tells Erin he thinks Olivia did a great job. Erin disagrees and says they don't have enough accessories for the morning show models. Joe says he likes what he saw and points out that Olivia had said it was a difficult task. Erin says even so, she is left with an incomplete segment and they will have to change it to focus only on handbags rather than all accessories. Again, Joe says he thought Olivia did a good job.

Meanwhile, Kelly arrives at People's Revolution and talks to Whitney and Roxy about the photo shoot, which she says went well except for their "Brazilian bore" model. Kelly then tells Roxy that she did a good job and took initiative, but she needs to respect Kelly's authority when on the set. Kelly makes it clear that all suggestions should pass by her first. She also tells both girls that it was embarrassing to not have the clips at the shoot, and they need to bring what she asks. Kelly leaves and says to call her when the photos arrive. Roxy smiles and says at least Kelly liked it and things could have been much worse.

The City – Season 1 Episode 14 Recap

MTV's The City Season 1 Episode 14 Recap

Olivia takes a job in the accessories department at ELLE Magazine, but meets her match in co-worker Erin Kaplan. Whitney goes back to work for Kelly Cutrone, and an old friend Roxy comes to town, looking for a job and a place to crash.

The show opens with Whitney's long-time friend Roxy Olin, who is stopping by the People's Revolution office in Soho for a job interview with Kelly Cutrone. The two shake hands and make small talk about the weather and the differences between New York and Los Angeles, where Roxy has recently moved from. When Kelly asks Roxy why she moved, Roxy sites the lack of organization and hectic atmosphere of her previous job in L.A.

The conversation turns to Whitney. Roxy tells Kelly it's shocking that Whitney is in New York and working in fashion since she was always a 'plain Jane' in high school who didn't look like she cared about fashion at all. Kelly asks Roxy if they are friends and get along. After a pause, Roxy says yes, they have always gotten along well, but if Whitney is constantly smiling it might get to her. Roxy admits that some people might think she's kind of a bitch, but she sees herself as a straight shooter.

Meanwhile, Olivia visits the ELLE Magazine offices in midtown. Joe Zee, the creative director at ELLE tells Olivia that they have an opening in the accessories department. He says she would add a lot to the magazine with her flair for fashion. Olivia accepts the position and Joe introduces her to Erin Kaplan, the director of public relations at ELLE and someone Olivia will be working closely with. Erin asks Olivia what she did when she worked for Diane Von Furstenberg and if she has ever worked at a magazine before. Olivia thanks them and leaves.

Joe asks Erin what she thought of Olivia. Erin says she thinks ELLE is a huge leap from Olivia's previous experience and Olivia may think she is more qualified than she actually is. Erin is worried that Olivia will have an attitude. Joe says he thinks Olivia has a good eye for fashion and Erin needs to watch her work. Erin and Joe say they will need to break her in.

Roxy meets Whitney at Sanctuary T to catch up and talk about Roxy's interview at People's Revolution. Roxy promises to work hard if she gets the job. They talk about how fun it is to be single around so many tall, hot men in New York as opposed to the guys they normally see in Los Angeles. Roxy tells Whitney she isn't sure where she is going to stay and asks to crash on her couch. Whitney says she can stay with her since she knows what it's like to move far away and not know many people.

Back at ELLE, Olivia starts her first day at work as Accessories Editor. Her desk is next to Erin's. Erin tells her about a 'Today Show' segment that they will need to work together on to present. Erin explains that ELLE Magazine does a bi-annual feature where they pair a very high priced item with very inexpensive one. They will bring this feature to television with the segment. Olivia is to find beach and office outfits with a limited budget. Olivia and ELLE Magazine's intern, Bryn, leave to shop.

Meanwhile, Whitney shows Roxy around her West Village apartment where they'll stay together. While up on the roof, Roxy suggests that they should have a party. Whitney says she would love to, but her neighbors have complained about noise in the past and she is worried about getting in trouble. They decide to have a smaller affair.

Over at ELLE, Olivia and Bryn have returned from their shopping trip with the budget-minded office and beach looks. Erin comes in to see what they've come up with. Olivia says they made the "impossible" budgets, but Erin questions if the outfits would be fashionable for women of all ages and sizes. Olivia says yes, if they pair the outfits with other items not shown. Erin explains that asking the viewers to buy more contradicts the point of the segment. Olivia replies that they searched for a while and there wasn't much of a selection for the limited budget, and if Erin has a problem with what they selected, she should go back and do it herself. Olivia says that her job is to pull accessories, not work on a morning show, but Erin says it is her job if she's asked to pull accessories. Olivia storms out of the office with Erin at her heels.

At People's Revolution Soho, Kelly and Whitney talk about work and Roxy. Whitney tells Kelly that Roxy and her are living together and having little cocktail party that night. Kelly says she likes that Roxy is direct, but asks how much Whitney trusts her. Whitney says she has known Roxy since seventh grade and she is a good girl. Kelly says Roxy has confidence and they should offer her the job and see what happens. As Kelly leaves the office, says she hopes Whitney's friends treat her as nice as she treats them.

Back at Whitney's apartment, Roxy is hosting much larger party Whitney planned. Roxy sends a mass text to invite more partygoers. When Whitney arrives, she finds Roxy and tells her the neighbors are complaining about the noise. Roxy says she did not invite many people. Whitney tells Roxy that she got the job at People's Revolution right before the Police arrive and break the party up.

In the morning at NBC studios in midtown, Erin and Olivia get the ELLE models ready for their 'Today Show' spot. Anne Slowey, ELLE's fashion news director, goes on air to talk about the outfits for their 'Summer Looks for Less' segment. After the show, Anne and Erin talk about how they're happy with how the segment turned out, but hoped to have better looks that every woman could wear rather than the outfits Olivia pulled.

The City – Season 1 Episode 13 Recap

MTV's The City Season 1 Episode 13 Recap

Whitney questions her life in New York City as she struggles with her break-up and competes with Olivia for new responsibilities at DVF.

It all starts at the DVF offices, where Alixe and Emese call a meeting with Whitney and Olivia to discuss the details of Fashion Week that's coming up. Emese explains that the London team will also be there and they will need to determine who will be working closer with them, which will be a great opportunity for one of them.

Adam pops in unannounced to speak with Erin at her work at One Management. Adam immediately expresses his concern about having to deal with too much drama in his life, especially because of Erin's meddling. Erin rebuttals by saying that she's just saying what everyone else is afraid to tell him. But Adam still defends his relationship with Allie and tells her to stay out of his life.

Back at the DVF offices, Alixe asks Whitney and Olivia to make sure the accessories correspond with the look for the preview. Olivia senses something wrong with Whitney and asks if she's okay. Whitney tells Olivia about her breakup with Jay. Olivia advises that she needs to focus more on her work and not about the relationship.

Later at Whitney's apartment, a confused Whitney turns to an old friend, Lauren, to seek advice. Whitney shares with Lauren that Jay is pretty much out of the picture now and that she's not sure if she made the right decision in coming to New York. She also talks about her frustrations at work with Olivia in that she just walks over anyone to get to where she wants. Lauren assures Whitney that she didn't make a mistake and she needs to focus and put more energy into her work and that will blur out all the other factors, such as Jay and Olivia.

At Erin's apartment, Erin talks to Allie about Adam's confrontation with her at work the other day. Erin tells her that the conversation was extremely intense and now understands the pull that he has on Allie. But she also shares that Adam did say Allie is the love of his life. Allie realizes that she needs to talk to him to straighten everything out.

Backstage at the DVF Fashion Show in Bryant Park, Emese introduces Whitney and Olivia to Jaye Thompson, the PR Director for DVF London. Jaye asks the girls who pulled the look for the Elle cover. Olivia signals her hand that she pulled the look while Whitney stands beside her quietly. Jaye congratulates Olivia on the pull.

Later, Whitney confronts Olivia about why she told Jaye that she pulled the look for the Elle cover. Olivia responds that if it comes up again then she will mention that Whitney pulled the pants. But Whitney confidently rebuttals by saying that she pulled the look. Whitney is frustrated that she hasn't gotten any recognition for her efforts. Olivia tells her that she's more than happy to give her more recognition, even though she thought that she already had before.

At the DVF after party, Diane von Furstenberg comes over to Whitney to ask why she's sitting by herself. Whitney tells Diane about her breakup with Jay. Diane offers this advice, "Absence is to love, what the wind is to fire. When it's a small fire the wind kills it, but when it's a real fire it intensifies it." She then goes on to say, "the most important relationship you have is the relationship you have with yourself." Whitney nods her head and contemplates what she just hears.

At Il Bastardo, Allie drops by to talk with Adam. Allie immediately gets angry with Adam for yelling at Erin at her work. Adam acknowledges that it wasn't the best approach, but at the time he felt that it was right. He tells her that he's been struggling with her not being around and asks for her back. Although Allie wants to come back home, she doesn't want to deal with having to hear all the same rumors about his infidelity over and over again. Adam promises on his life that she will never hear something like that again. After a long pause, Allie accepts his promise and they embrace and make amends.

Back at the DVF after party, Jaye, Alixe and Olivia hang out. Alixe then tells Olivia that it would be great if she became Jaye's US liaison. A giddy Olivia accepts.

Meanwhile, Whitney gets an unexpected phone call from Jay who is right outside the party. Whitney goes to the window and peaks out to see a dapper Jay standing out on the street. She is confused as to why he's there, but heads downstairs to go meet him. But before she heads down, she gets stopped by Olivia who has some "good news" to share. Although Whitney informs her that this is not the best time to talk, Olivia goes on to tell her that she will be heading to London in a few weeks to work closely with the London branch. Whitney puts her hand to her face, takes a deep breath in and says, "okay" and walks away.

Then, Whitney meets up with Jay outside. After a little small talk, Jay starts by saying that he felt bad about the way things ended. He realized that he made a mistake and that he really does love her. Whitney puts her head down and they hug. Jay tells her, "It's better late than never, right?" Whitney responds with, "but it's also too little too late." Jay asks Whitney if she doesn't love him. Whitney tells Jay that she was falling in love with him and that she "lost herself in this...in us." She decides that she really needs to be on her own right now and that they both need to focus on what they came to New York to do. A now speechless Jay is tearful and Whitney tells him, "I'm sorry" and walks away to go back to the party.

The City – Season 1 Episode 12 Recap

MTV's The City Season 1 Episode 12 Recap

While hanging in the lobby of a movie theater, Jay starts telling Adam how excited he is about his upcoming tour. When Adam brings up Whitney, Jay explains that he hasn't told her yet. While Jay wants it to stay strong, he's going to be away for two months and wants to stay focused. Adam tells him that he shouldn't wait any longer to tell her because this could determine the future of their relationship.

At Diane von Furstenberg, Alixe Boyer calls a meeting with Whitney, Olivia, Elizabeth, and Emese to discuss their new project. With Fashion Week coming up, Alixe tells them that next week their international PR teams will be arriving and they will be presenting a global PR strategy plan to them. Emese continues by saying DVF's expanded handbag collection will be one of the major collections they use, then tasking Whitney and Olivia to give a presentation about the line and what it stands for, as well as how they will pitch it to the press. After Alixe and Emese leave, Whitney and Elizabeth discuss how nerve-racking presentations are but Olivia is confident and advises, "You just don't think about it. You just look above their heads."

At the Tamarama rehearsal studio in Chelsea, during a break from rehearsing, Jay starts talking to his band-mate Pottsy about their upcoming tour. Pottsy asks if he's spoken to Whitney yet about it, and when Jay says he hasn't, Pottsy insists that he do it as soon as possible and avoid what happened with his last relationship.

Jay meets Whitney for dinner at Felix Restaurant in Soho, where he tells Whitney he needs to talk to her about something. He explains that his record company called and wants him to go on tour. When Whitney asks when he first found out about this, he reveals that he's known since the Miami trip, but didn't say anything because he didn't want to ruin the trip. He goes on to tell her that he's due to leave in five days, but insists that he obviously wants to make the relationship work. Whitney agrees that she also wants it to work but she doesn't want to have to sit around wondering what he's doing or who he's with, to which he asks, "Why would you think that, you don't trust me?" Whitney then asks why he couldn't have just been honest about this from the beginning, and Jay replies that he's telling her now. Things begin to get heated as he questions why telling her sooner would have been better because she would have still been upset anyway for him going away. But she fires back that she's not pissed off he's going away, she's pissed off that he didn't tell her and now he's leaving in five days. After a pause, Whitney gets up and says, "I can't force you to be honest with me," and tells Jay he can find someplace else to stay tonight. Before walking out, she suggests, "Maybe you should call Danielle."

The next morning at Whitney's apartment in Gramercy, Whitney fills Erin in on the bomb Jay dropped on her at dinner last night. She's frustrated that Fashion Week is coming up and even though she should be completely focused on that, she now has this to deal with too. Whitney asks if she's overreacting, but Erin assures her that how she's feeling is totally legit. She begins to question whether he really even likes her or not and Erin tells her that she deserves better. Whitney then adds, "I feel like everything is crashing down on me right now, and I need to take some control."

At Diane von Furstenberg, Whitney tries to focus on work, starting to go over the handbag collection with Olivia. They try and look for the overall appeal of the handbags and why they were chosen to represent the Fall collection.

That night, Whitney meets up with Erin, Allie, and Samantha at Fig & Olive in the Meat Packing District, where Whitney has a chance to vent about her relationship with Jay. They all agree how insensitive and rude it is of him to have not told her until now, and suggest that she give him some sort of ultimatum. Whitney says that as much as she wants to stand strong on the issue, she finds herself constantly thinking about him, recounting the first night they met and went out together, and how she knew how much she liked him after that first night. The girls all discuss the fact that Whitney came to New York and was basically already in a relationship with Jay, so she really hasn't had a chance to experience the single life in the city yet. Whitney says that she at least wants to talk to him before he goes on tour.

At Diane von Furstenberg, Whitney goes over her notes before her presentation for the international PR teams. She tells Olivia how nervous she is, but Olivia stays confident and says just to think of it as any other project. Alixe opens up the meeting and turns it over to Whitney and Olivia to present the plans and strategy for the new handbag collection, stating that the spirit of the collection is that these handbags are the "accessible luxury."

Jay arrives at Whitney's apartment and they have a seat on the couch. Jay opens up by asking, "What's going on?" and Whitney explains that she feels like there are definitely things they need to work on in their relationship because she doesn't want to just throw away what they have. Jay says that he feels like he's constantly doing something wrong and doesn't think he should feel that way. He also questions if it's going to be the same way when he's on tour with Whitney not trusting him. Whitney points out how angry he sounds about it and he says that he's upset because of how dinner went, when she started rambling off about all these things she's unhappy with him doing and asks how they can have a relationship like that. Whitney says that they clearly live very different lifestyles and she's willing to work out their differences, but Jay says it seems like she's the one who has the problem most of the time. She feels like he doesn't listen to her, and Jay calls that ridiculous, saying it's no easier for him to be away from her for two months. He suggests that maybe she needs to be a little bit stronger because she is constantly coming to him with these problems, and she answers, "I don't want to be in a relationship with someone who thinks I'm a burden." Jay assures her that she means everything to him, but he just needs to be by himself for now. To which Whitney says, "So basically I just don't mean enough to you to try and make it work," Jay begins to tear up and insists that he cares about her so much, it's just the wrong timing. He finally gets up and walks toward the door and Whitney asks, "So that's it, you just walk out?" Jay mutters, "I'm sorry, Whit," and closes the door behind him.

The City – Season 1 Episode 11 Recap

MTV's The City Season 1 Episode 11 Recap

This episode was FULL of drama drama drama. Whitney needs to kick Jay to the curb because all he is is trouble. And I can't believe that Olivia would do such a thing to Whitney!! If you missed the episode you'll find out that Olivia is such a backstabber!

At Diane von Furstenberg, Alixe Boyer calls Whitney and Olivia into her office with an urgent request from the Creative Director of Elle Magazine, Joe Zee, for them to pull together some possible outfits for Jessica Alba to wear on the March cover of Elle. Alixe asks them to pull five or six things from Spring Runway that would be ideal for the cover, putting Olivia in charge and asking Whitney to help her with the pull.

Whitney and Olivia get straight to work on finding something that will really stand out for the cover shot. Olivia pulls a few things, pointing out to Whitney why they are cover material, and when Whitney pulls a colorful outfit that she feels is representative of the line, Olivia brushes it off as "too matchy, matchy." Olivia explains that because it's too much of the same thing, they won't use it for the cover. Whitney pushes to include the look, and finally agrees to keep it on the rack, just because it adds a little color.

At Erin's apartment in Gramercy, Erin greets Allie with a hug and Allie proceeds to tell Erin about moving out of Adam's apartment. Erin says she's really happy she can be there for Allie, and tells Allie she's more than welcome to stay as long as she needs. Allie thanks her and then talks about how she feels like this is a make or break moment in her relationship with Adam, but hopes this will make things better between them.

Whitney and Jay meet for dinner in Greenwich Village at Double Crown, where Jay asks how work is going. They both laugh when Whitney replies, "Olivia was Olivia." Whitney asks Jay how the apartment hunt is going, and Jay explains that his first plan of attack is to feel things out and call a few people. Whitney reiterates the fact that he's more than welcome to stay with her but points out that she has never lived with a guy before and that they're clearly not ready for this to become permanent. Jay respects her terms, and they both agree that the situation is temporary.

In the Meat Packing District at Diane von Furstenberg, Whitney and Olivia meet Alixe and Emese, the Director of Public Relations. Alixe shows them the first draft of the Elle cover shoot, with Jessica Alba posing in the outfit Whitney picked out. Emese asks them, "Which one of you guys pulled the winning look?" and Olivia credits herself as having pulled the jacket, and Whitney with pulling the shirt. Whitney looks completely shocked as Olivia proceeds to comment on how well the colors of the outfit work. Alixe then tells the girls that they are going to host a luncheon to celebrate the cover, tasking the girls with putting together a guest list. Before they go, Alixe adds, "Olivia, I know you spear-headed the project, you did an excellent job," to which Olivia graciously tells her that means a lot.

Later that night, Whitney meets Erin, Allie, and Samantha at Rayuela on the Lower East Side, where Whitney fills them in on the latest at work; how she pulled the outfit that was used for the Elle cover shoot, but Olivia "totally took credit for it." The girls are completely disgusted, and Whitney seeks their advice as to whether she should confront her bosses or Olivia. Erin suggests that she start playing dirty, but Allie says that she's learned what type of person Olivia is, so now she knows for the future and it's probably not worth starting drama. The conversation turns to Whitney's living situation with Jay, and Erin jokes that he better at least be returning it in sexual favors... "You're gonna live here, bitch, you gotta work for it." Whitney hesitates uncomfortably, and then explains that she's having some issues with the relationship, saying that he comes home at 5:30 in the morning, the intimacy and the passion seem gone. Allie sums up that Jay is a rock star and he's going to live a rock star life and that's not going to change.

At Pink Elephant in Chelsea, Jay meets up with Adam where they fill each other in on their respective love lives. When Adam asks how living with Whitney is going, Jay replies, "The one good thing about living with her, I don't really need to take her out so much," to which Adam laughs, "Cheap date." When Jay comments on Allie moving out, Adam answers him with a simple, "Dude," and they agree to stop talking about their girlfriends for the night. Jay spots his ex-girlfriend, Danielle, and says hello, asking how long she'll be in New York. She tells him two days, just to chill, and then Jay asks, "Are you ready to get out of here?" She smiles and says, "Of course."

The next day, the Elle Cover Luncheon is in full swing at Diane von Furstenberg. Alixe pulls Olivia aside and tells her how pleased she is with the luncheon and the cover. Olivia says excitedly, "I pulled that look," going on to say that she considered what Joe Zee likes and what Jessica Alba likes and that she just knew the look would work. Diane von Furstenberg and Joe Zee both come over to admire the cover and congratulate Olivia on what a great job she did. Whitney joins them, just in time to hear Olivia repeat that she pulled that look and receive further congratulations, making Whitney even more frustrated.

At Joe's Ginger in Chinatown, Whitney tells Jay about the luncheon and how she was about to have it out with Olivia for taking credit for the Elle cover. Jay gives an exaggerated sigh and says he's tired because he was up until six in the morning. When Whitney wonders what he could be doing until so late, he responds, "Binge drinking."

The next morning, Whitney meets Allie at Amy's Bread. Allie starts by telling Whitney that she knows that this isn't what she wants to hear right now, however, Adam slipped up and mentioned that Jay's ex, Danielle, was with them the other night. Whitney explains how it makes perfect sense because of how he was acting at dinner the other night -- she knew he was out late but she didn't know who he was with. After a long pause, Whitney says, "I'm so over all of this, you know?"
